WILSHERE STRUGGLES

Jack Wilshere has been putting in some great performances over the last few weeks and manager Arsene Wenger has said that it is largely down to the form of Aaron Ramsey. Wilshere has been regarded as one of Arsenal’s good players over the last few years, but he has been overshadowed by Ramsey this campaign. The Welshman has already scored 13 goals in a brilliant season, while Wilshere is only on four for the season. However, there has been a tremendous increase in the performance of the England international in the last few matches.

He scored two goals in the Champions league match against Marseille, while also coming close to opening the scoring against Cardiff during the weekend. The form of Wilshere is extremely good news for Roy Hodgson given that England are missing a goal scoring midfielder due to the decline of Frank Lampard in recent years. Wilshere has also been in and out of the England team due to the form of players like Andros Townsend, but the last few matches have shown the 21-year-old at his best.

“I have nothing against Wilshere scoring – if I’m wrong I’m happy! I liked his first goal because before he’d rush a little bit. He’s starting to think ‘what Ramsey can do, I can do as well’, the first goal shows that. What Ramsey has done puts in Jack’s mind that he has to score as well. If you’re a midfielder you want to score goals,” said Wenger after the match against Marseille in which Wilshere opened the scoring after just 27 seconds.

Wilshere and Ramsey have been able to overshadow Mesut Ozil, who cost to the club an incredible £ 42 million, in the last few weeks and Wenger is hoping that it will provide some good competition for the midfield.
