Lucas Silva Borges signed by Real Madrid

For a fee in the region of €14 million, the Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva Borges was signed by Real Madrid on a 5 and a half year long contract. At the age of 21, he is already being hailed to be one of the best defensive midfielders to emerge from Brazil.

Even at such a young age Lucas Silva Borges has already lifted important titles as he was a key figure for his previous club Cruzeiro in their Championship winning season during 2013 and 2014. He was also included in the best XI of the tournament due to the contributions he made for his former team.

Carlo Ancelotti already has a number of world class offensive players under his control with players such as: C.Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, KarimBenzema, James Rodriguez and a few others. However, when it comes to the section of the squad that has to defend in the midfield, this task usually goes to Luka Modric but the Croatian player has not been able to play in any of Real Madrid’s latest matches due to injury. This has forced Carlo Ancelotti on having to seek out players from the sidelines such as: Sami Khedira but the German midfielder has struggled since coming back into the pitch.

The arrival of Lucas Silva is expected to solve some of the problems that the club has been experiencing defensively. The Brazilian midfielder expressed his joy in having joined Real Madrid as he told reporters:

“I am very happy with this time. It is a unique opportunity in my life is a dream come true. I could not fail to thank the club, the staff, the players, the coaching staff, especially the coach. I also thank the President who answered my personal request, making me realize that dream,” Lucas Silva stated.

Real Madrid has recently been experiencing a number of setbacks and negative results not only inside of the pitch but outside of it as well. Carlo Ancelotti’s squad was knocked out of the Copa del Rey after losing against Athletic Madrid and 21 days later they sustained another defeat against their rivals Athletic Madrid with a shocking final scoreboard of 4-0 which has threatened Real Madrid’s chances on winning the league title.

The addition of Lucas Silva could possibly help out Real Madrid in their recent string of negative results.
